PEM provided specialized ES&H staff consisting of CIH, CSP, CHP, Asbestos/lead Inspectors, and REHS, to oversee the IH and Radiation Protection Program at the NASA Goddard Space and Flight Center and five associated research facilities nationwide. The project supported full range of environmental programs including IAQ, hearing conservation, nanomaterials, hazardous materials/waste management, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety. Specific tasks include routine IH surveys; IAQ assessments; fit testing; exposure assessments; inventory and storage of radioactive sources; shipping receipt, and transfer of radioactive sources; hazardous waste disposal; and emergency response. CIH/CHP conducted verification and hazard analysis in support of state-of-art research facilities requiring development of novel engineering and administrative controls related to safe use of lasers, nanomaterials, and cleanrooms.
